Astrapak Limited made a strategic decision to purchase PlasTech Moulders in May 2010 with the aim of increasing its footprint in the Eastern Cape. In addition to the PlasTech operation, the Elpet facility was purchased from Elvin in November 2013 and continued operating in the East London Industrial Development Zone (ELIDZ) under the PlasTech umbrella.
The ELPET production equipment was moved from the ELIDZ premises to the current PlasTech facility in Wilsonia in January 2015. A significant deal was reached with Johnson & Johnson in 2014 that led to Astrapak acquiring the premises that PlasTech had been renting as there was a need to ensure that the quality of manufacturing facilities matched the stringent requirements of this global giant.
PlasTech has just undergone a significant upgrade and has invested into World Class Manufacturing (WCM) principles, initiating best practices within the business with regard to visual performance, focus improvement and asset care to meet the demands of their world class customers.
PlasTech manufactures plastic containers for the health and personal care, home-care, beverage and industrial markets, and also supplies an extensive range of PET bottles to the beverage industry. Founded in East London in 1993, PlasTech is a recognised supplier of rigid plastic packaging.
Added value to the customer is derived from the decorative technique on the containers, expanding the company’s ability to provide an all-inclusive service.
The acquisition signals Astrapak’s confidence in the region and in PlasTech’s customers. As Astrapak progresses on a journey to become a focussed and successful packaging supplier, this marks another major milestone and expresses commitment to the future.
