Based in Prospecton, KwaZulu-Natal, Plastop KZN is Astrapak Limited’s premier manufacturer of visually appealing packaging that is practical and functional for the personal care market. Their range includes personal care plain and sleeved jars, and plain and sleeved bottles as well as “roll-on” deodorant bottles.
Astrapak Limited is primarily restructuring to become a focused group of manufacturing entities of scale, servicing key customers and utilising the moulding and forming technologies. The Plastop KZN plant perfectly fits this “mould” and forms an essential part of Astrapak Limited’s Moulding division.
The factory has invested in state-of-the-art injection blow moulding and extrusion blow-moulding technologies to manufacture high quality customised products that are available in a variety of shapes, colours and finishes made to the customer’s specifications. The advanced injection blow-moulding technology offers a very high product output using precision-built moulds without compromising on quality.
Innovative product sleeving is done on-site using a unique steaming process, which shrinks the sleeve onto the bottle. The sensitive yet advance application of the decorative sleeve allows the label to be shrink-fitted to the bottle without damaging the quality of the bottle, keeping it free of any deformities. The entire body of the deodorant bottle or lotion tube is enveloped.
With an emphasis on high-quality products throughout Astrapak’s group of companies, Plastop KZN is stringent in meeting those requirements and carries the FSSC22000 certification, which includes PAS223.
This food safety system accreditation covers quality management (the foundation is ISO 9001) and food safety, which puts Plastop KZN in a very strong position to supply personal care and food packaging products in the highest standards of quality and hygiene practices.
Plastop KZN uses high-density HDPE polyethylene and polypropylene materials on the production line, all of which are fully recyclable in line with Astrapak’s recycling initiatives. Rejected or scrapped products that do not meet the rigorous quality checks are either recycled in-house or by the recycling company.
