With the emphasis on providing superior quality plastic packaging solutions to the personal care and cosmetic market sectors, Consupaq is founded mainly on the supply of generic products to these markets, which contributes 98% of their total output.
As an essential part of Astrapak Limited’s Moulding division, Consupaq manufactures a comprehensive range of flexible extruded tubes, thin-walled injection moulded jars and innovative plastic moulded glass look-alike jars for high-end cosmetics brands, ensuring that their client’s premium product is packaged to the highest quality standards.
The Durban-based factory uses the latest conversion technologies, such as injection moulding, extrusion moulding and extrusion blow moulding in the manufacture of world-class products.
Their ability to turn around very specific requirements in terms of colour and decorative technique is the key to Consupaq’s success, offering a comprehensive product service with in-house labelling. Their human resources structure is tailored to meet that need, with on-site specialists in product development, design and graphics to offer custom-designed packaging solutions. The team is supported with the necessary systems and equipment in place to deliver on their promise.
Innovative decorative techniques are what Consupaq believes offers added value to their customers. Their most recent investment is the Flexo printing machine, the only one in South Africa and one of a few in the world, which prints a hi-resolution photographic image directly onto the tube at very high speed. All products can be decorated using the latest technologies, including five-colour silkscreen printing, offset litho printing, hot foiling and tube labelling. They also offer state-of-the-art bi-injection moulding, which produces two-colour products or a unique combination of two different materials simultaneously in one product.
By tracking international trends, Consupaq ensures they remain at the leading edge of their product offering, manufacturing globally competitive products and continuously pushing their limits. Throughout the evolution of the business, Consupaq has been at the forefront of decorating technology, with their sleeved cosmetic jars and bi-injected 2K caps each having won Gold Pack awards in 2013.
Quality control is important to Astrapak’s group of companies and the ISO22000 and PAS223 accreditation allows Consupaq to meet their personal care safety requirements, assuring their customers of the highest standards of quality and hygiene practices. They also adopt the World Class Manufacturing (WCM) principles, initiating best practices within the business with regard to visual performance, focus improvement and asset care.
All material used in the manufacturing process – polyethylene, polypropylene and some styrenics – are fully recyclable in line with Astrapak’s recycling initiatives. The “tops and tails” remnants of the extrusion blow moulding process are recycled and re-used in the closed-loop system within the production process, minimising waste.
