Every two years, members of the packaging industry in South Africa are provided an opportunity to showcase their innovative packaging designs at the prestigious IPSA Gold Pack Awards.
Astrapak will be looking to repeat their success of the 2013 Gold Pack Awards, where they walked away with the esteemed overall Gold Pack Trophy for the world’s first multi-functional two-piece injection moulded closure for spice bottles, as well as many more prizes. As a company, Astrapak received the most number of awards in the plastic packaging category, making it the best set of awards Astrapak has achieved in the history of the Group.
“Gold Pack, South Africa’s “Oscars equivalent” packaging awards, acknowledges and celebrates companies for their innovative packaging designs and recognises members of the industry for their outstanding contribution in packaging,” says Astrapak Group New Business Development Manager, Robin Olbrich.
Packaging companies submit their product samples and motivations approximately four months prior to the event, where the selected panel of judges reviews them. The core of the local judges hails from the industries; some are brand owners and some are retailers. All of the product judging is done prior to the event, and the respective awards are announced at the gala evening, which is held in November.
The prestigious Gold Pack Awards has become the industry’s showcase of awards for innovative thinking and provides packaging designers and manufacturers a springboard to present their credentials and abilities to prospective customers with innovation being the focal point of the event.
The achievement of winning the IPSA Gold Pack Award means that recognition is shared across the value chain from conceptual design through to the end customer. Numerous product categories are awarded, with 17 awards for the Rigid Plastics sector, nine awards for Flexible Plastic and 43 awards for other, glass, metal and carton entries.
While the actual awards are extremely important for Astrapak, the opportunity to show their pedigree in this industry remains paramount.
