Astrapak welcomes Mr Esmond Naidoo into the role as SHEQ Manager at Pak 2000 in Westmead, KwaZulu-Natal.
Mr Naidoo was previously a Quality Engineering Manager in the automotive industry, a sector where he had 15 years experience. His experience includes working with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM), ISO management systems – where he was the lead auditor, and building quality systems – TS16949 VDA6.3, ISO9001, and currently working on ISO22000/TS22000/4 at Pak 2000.
He is also a Product Safety Representative, which allows one to understand foreign laws in relation to consequential effects of products manufactured under his responsibility. Mr Naidoo has also travelled to Europe, working with OEMs in the development of new projects and signing off products and processes.
Mr Naidoo is a member of the South African Society for Quality (SASQ), where he benefits extensively from networking with the right people and placing him at the cutting edge of changes and new developments in Quality Strategies and Techniques.
Talking about his introduction to Astrapak, Mr Naidoo says he is satisfied with the systems that are currently in place when it comes to safety, health, environment and quality at the Pak2000 plant.
The similarities in the plastics manufacturing sector and the automotive sector are found when it comes to using statistical studies for problem solving. “We encourage cross functional teamwork for the team to work in harmony toward a common goal,” said Mr Naidoo. “This ensures a quicker response time and customer satisfaction comes from all those initiatives. We use quality core tools and incorporate international best practices.”
Mr Naidoo is busy completing his MBA, and has a Management degree as well as a Total Quality Management Cum Laude, to mention a few.
“I’d like to improve on the strengths and develop the weaknesses at Pak 2000,” said Mr Naidoo. “Safety is crucial at any manufacturing site, but quality and customer satisfaction is our focus now, which comes from producing good quality products on time, first time – all the time.”
Mr Naidoo is a strong advocate for World Class Manufacturing standards and will be driving this process at Pak 2000.
